KB971541: Windows 2008 based (R)MS, the Web Console and Error 1334

Got this one from the Microsoft TechNet OpsMgr Forums.

When one runs OpsMgr SP1 on Windows 2008 and wants to apply the Update Rollup (KB971541) the Web Console might be in the way of things. So the Web Console has to be removed temporarily. No big deal. After the Update Rollup has been applied successfully the Web Console must be installed again. But then this error might pop up:

Product: System Center Operations Manager 2007 -- Error 1334.The file File196.2FD07918_9082_437D_99BC_FD43602A4625 cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file Data.Cab. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.

This is the way how to solve that issue:

  1. Open your registry and navigate to:
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\DF6E5EFF035E66C49971553D96AA0E4D\Patches].

  2. Open the "Patches" REG_MULTI_SZ key and cut the "Value Data", for example "D825D..." and "74344..." and paste this data into Notepad.

  3. Re-run setup and select web console and it should add/setup successfully.

  4. When done, be sure to copy the "Value Data" you cut, back into the editor box.

  5. Then, check Add/Remove programs and be sure to check the "Show updates" box and you should see "System Center Operations Manager 2007" parent entry with "KB971541-ENU" and "KB971541" listed below.
